Resolution; Myles Family; Mrs. Myles, It was the early 80’s when I met this Family, unbeknownst to me, this chance relationship would be a lifelong bond.. I forged a Friendship with Michael Myles, and Joseph Westbrook, these two Friendships would be a driving force in my youth/teen years, and so impactful...it’s funny how you have your School Friends and your Church Friends, but that’s what it was, these were the Church Friends, I never imagined how such relationships would grow expand... I would be invited into the personal lives, homes of Joseph and Michael, and I would become aquatinted with Joseph’s Parents, Henrietta Westbrook, Joe Westbrook, and Rev. and Mrs. Myles... countless Sunday’s, I’d spend at these two houses, and oddly as it may seem, while the guest of either, Michael or Joseph, I found myself talking with their Mother’s, at the kitchen table, more than hanging out with Michael or Joseph... two very different Mother’s, but both receptive, and lovingly inviting to this new kid, ... Tray.... Now mind you, it took a bit to break the ice, with both Mother’s, as I’m an an acquired taste, but, a lasting relationship began nonetheless.. The Myles Family, Mrs. Myles and I sat at that Kitchen table, many a Sunday’s, just talkin, I could tell with each conversation, Mrs. Myles was trying to figure me out, understand my point in life, assess my Spiritual relationship, and my Educational, and Professional pursuits. I was never much for people asking me a bunch of questions, but, learning through our many conversations she was a Teacher, an Educator, I understood..I finally realized why everyone in the family talked so proper, and was so astute.. one thing she learned real quick about Tray, was, he liked to eat, and loved her Signature Polish sausage dishes, but, I only liked it, minus certain vegetables, of course, that didn’t go over very well with Mrs. Myles!!! Once she said to Michael, as we sat at the table, “Michael who’s this boy you brought to my house, being picky about what he eats at my table?” She said to me, “Tray, look here, you can’t come in this house being picky about what you want to eat,” she continued, I don’t let my own children do that, you eat what I cook.” Lol’ and of course, also quoted from scripture, when you visit someone’s house, you accept what they offer... lol’ but, mainly made it very clear, that her house was not a restaurant and I will eat what she prepares or won’t eat at all...so of course, I ate..lol’ but, this woman learned what I liked and didn’t like and when it came to that signature Sausage dish of hers, she would have a portion for me without the veggies I didn’t like, she’d say to me, “Here boy, so I don’t lose my religion over you being picky over my food!” lol’ This is the kind of Woman, Mother, Person Mrs. Myles was. You would become a part of the family, by association, a friend of their children, was by default, a part of the family. And I truly felt that way indeed. I enjoyed many outings, riding in that old Station wagon, with Rev Myles, William, and in that Mustang with Michael, and Yolanda, and the Caprice Classic, and Yolanda’s first Car, Her Cougar, of which she took me in, and I would acquire my drivers license in... This Family was the epitome of reaching out, and inclusion to others... As the years progressed, us kids went our separate ways, but inclusion amongst the Myles family never changed.. My Family began to lose members very early, and Rev. Myles always reached out.., mind you, he never attempted to usurp the Pastor’s authority, he just had those close ties with our family and acted as the extended family to us, as the Myles family had been to me. Through these times of bereavement, he’d call, and most often come to the house and lead in prayer... I remember when my Father passed, in 1988- Rev. Myles saw me at church, came up to me shook my hand and stated, he knew he didn’t know my Dad well, but recognizing the loss I had, as a then 19 year old just beginning life, losing a parent, he said, “Tray, if you ever need anyone to talk to, I know I’m not your Father, and don’t know the relationship you had, with your father, but, I have sons and know a boy, a young man can always use words from a father figure, and I’m here if you need anyone to talk to.” From then, and through the years, Rev. Myles remained true to his character.. The years continued to pass, all of us kids were all grown up, in different directions, when I’d visit St John I made a point to see Mrs. Myles, after church, she usually sat in close proximity with my Mother, sharing stories, about me I’m sure, but, she always greeted me with a hug, saying, “Tray, why haven’t I seen you?” I’d reply, “Mrs. Myles, I’m not a member here anymore” she’d quickly reply, “You know know where we live?” We’d share a laugh and depart with a hug... I will leave my accounts/thoughts with this final sentiment, while I could go on and on, it isn’t necessary, because this family knows and has always known my deep appreciation and connection with them, spanning a life-time, nearly 40 years, yes indeed... I feel soooo grateful to have had the honor to be welcomed in as a part of this family, and these words, of my thoughts, aren’t meant for Rev. Myles, William, Yolanda and Michael, they already know my experiences with them, these words are for everyone else, that don’t know, that I felt the need to share, exactly what kind of Family this is, what kind of special Woman, Mother, Mrs. Myles is, not was, but is and will always be... Being someone of faith, as This Family is, knowing the strong, true, consistent relationship Mrs. Myles had with our creator, one thing we all come to know, in this walk, we will all come together... in that old spiritual, ... “When we all get together, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all, see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout for Victory “. Sooo, for me, this is not Goodbye, but rather, “See you later Mrs. Myles!” Rev. Myles, Michael, Yolanda, William, and all of the Myles family... Tray Abram

The sorrow you feel over the loss of your wife is indescribable. Even the words I write now may do little to comfort you, but I request that you take heart. The best legacies your wife left behind are the memories you both made. Take consolation in the knowledge that she lived a fulfilled life. I remember the wonderful times I shared with your wife, who was my friend. I will forever remember our talks, the fun we had. She was simply amazing. May God grant her eternal rest.
