To the George Shirley family, The United Ladies Chorus of Oklahoma city extends to you, our deepest sympathy during this very sad time. Many years ago, as the ladies chorus began our journey, as a singing group, We sometimes became discouraged, it was during that time that in Brother George's words he told us "GO FOR IT" Many times we were supported, encouraged and uplifted by Brother Shirley and the Male Chorus members. Today, please allow us to encourage you, and to lift you up with these words: "BECAUSE HE LIVES, YOU CAN FACE TOMORROW ." Submitted with Love, The United Ladies Chorus

A Ministerial View! The forever moving continuum of time, the devastation of physical illnesses and the forever presence of the stresses the ministerial life yokes on the ole preacher will eventually take its toll. Yet, he presses on as he gradually fades from the physical realm of life to reappear in the spiritual realm of eternity. This ole soldier (Bro George Shirley) of the cross didn’t die; he has followed the inevitable path of all ole soldiers. He just faded away. Enjoy your rest!

I first met George in the summer of 1966. It was at an outdoor nigh time devotional at Oklahoma Christian College. George gave the devotional talk that night and then led the song "My God and I". Not only did George have an incredible singing voice but he also had a deep faith in God. In later years I was moved by George and all the members of the United Male Chorus. George was an encourager and a true man of God. I pray that God will comfort his family in their loss.

George and Della Shirley are my two children Jordan and Courtland Powers Aunt and Uncle. When I was traveling due to my job we relied on them to assist us on a number of occasions. They were always willing with open hands and hearts and often extended themselves to my family. Every visit to Oklahoma City my mother Evelyn would always visit the Shirley’s. She was welcomed with his smile, and that wonderful look in his eyes. He served his community well, a good citizen, and an excellent Uncle. My family will miss him!

Sending love, light and comfort to you and your family during this time of deep sorrow. As you travel this road of physical loss alone amongst family and friends, reflect on the wonderful memories left to you as a gift by your dad. The valuable lessons, the side-splitting laughter and the soul-warming tears that have developed you to be you. He is with you always in you heart and remember him in your word and deed. Take time now to be vulnerable and cry-let it go. Let it out. Let the pain out so that the joy and love has rooom to flourish. I give these words/ thoughts as a gift to help. I love you Elender.
